Kamala Harris. Joe Biden. Chuck Schumer. In the hours after Graham's death, Democratic leaders offered tributes that would make you think they'd lost a beloved ally — because they had. This is the breakdown of what Lindsey Graham actually did to Medicaid, to food stamps, to the people he was supposed to represent, and what it reveals about a Democratic Party whose approval rating is in the toilet.
Nicholas Grossman, professor of international relations at the University of Illinois, said it plainly: "The Democratic Party's approval rating is in the toilet, and the main reason is voters see Dem leaders and prominent members acting like things are basically okay instead of fighting like there's an emergency."
The Democratic leadership saw the same Graham the rest of us did. They were fine with the outcomes as long as the room stayed collegial — because they were in the same room, pushing a lot of the same policies.
They chose the room over the constituents. And the constituents noticed.
