Latest Poll Shows Texas Governor Is In Serious Trouble

The latest polls coming out of the state of Texas aren't making Republicans very happy. While incumbent Republican governor Greg Abbott is still in the lead against opponent Beto O'Rourke, that lead is shrinking at an alarming rate. Right now, Abbott only leads by 6 points, the smallest margin that has been seen in the state in nearly 30 years. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains why this is so significant.

In the state of Texas Beto O'Rourke who of course is the democratic nominee for governor has somehow managed to close the gap, not completely, but mostly between him and incumbent Republican governor, Greg Abbot, the gap between the two candidates is now down to just six points in the latest round of polling. And you may think, okay. Yeah. Six points is a big gap, right? Well, in the state of Texas, it is not because that is actually the smallest gap that we have seen in a Texas governor's race in modern history. The closest gap we have to compare that to is in 1994, when George W. Bush Deron and Richards as the democratic governor of Texas. And that gap was a 7.6 margin. So 7.6 percentage points was the closest one we had had up to this point. And now we got Beto, O'Rourke only six points behind Greg Abbott.

That is remarkable, but word of caution here, it is not necessarily because, uh, Beto O'Rourke is out there, you know, running the best campaign on the planet. He is being helped by the Supreme court, overturning Roe versus Wade, and, um, the Uvalde shooting that is weighing heavily on the minds of the voters there in the state of Texas. Also helping him out are the multiple different failures that Abbot has suffered most recently with the energy grid where Texans were without electricity, during a massive heat wave. Then of course, couple years ago, they were without electricity during the massive winter storm. And a lot of people died. So Abbot's mismanagement of the state, I think right now is what's helping Beto. O'Rourke, uh, far more than O'Rourke's campaign. Now don't get me wrong. I I've seen some actually pretty good things from O'Rourke's campaign. Remember when he interrupted the, uh, press conference of the governor got thrown outta the press conference, actually for demanding that they take action against gun rights that I do believe actually did help Beto O'Rourke.

Now his presidential campaign was something that, uh, was widely mocked even by people on the left, right? He, he didn't have much of a direction. He was hailed by the media as like the rising star. Remember the magazine cover, born to run, and then he fell flat. Didn't do well at all, but he has reemerged, you know, I think kind of regathered himself, hopefully hired some new advisors and, you know, campaign folk because he appears to be doing pretty well. Now we have seen better O'Rourke surge in Texas races before when he almost, you know, came within a Harris' breath away from unseating Republican Senator, Ted Cruz, he received a ton of outof state money, but it wasn't enough to

Help him in the state of Texas. But of course, situations have changed in Texas. Since that race demographics have changed. O'Rourke has a real shot at becoming the next governor of Texas. He still has ground to make up here, but right now it is closer than it's pretty much ever been at least in my lifetime. And that is saying a lot for AURs campaign.
