Matt Gaetz Almost Gets His Ass Kicked By Republican Congressman

Republican Representative Mike Rogers from Alabama got fed up with Matt Gaetz's obstruction to Kevin McCarthy on Friday evening, and he appeared to lunge at his fellow Republican lawmaker as if to fight him. Rogers had to be restrained by his colleagues during the altercation. So late Friday evening, of course, after the 15th vote, Kevin McCarthy officially became the speaker of the House. But the real drama happened after the 14th vote, after Matt Gates decided to switch his vote to present, which guaranteed that McCarthy was not gonna win on that 14th ballot, and we would have to go to a 15th vote. Apparently that made a couple of Republicans, or at least one Republican, very, very angry that Republican was representative Mike Rogers from the state of Alabama, who had to be physically restrained as he appeared to lunge at Matt Gates, presumably to, uh, beat him up, I guess. So here is the video, um, from CNN showing Mike Rogers and his, uh, lunge and then restraint as he went after Matt Gates. Take a look.

The, just a normal day in the House of Representatives, I guess, right? Look, they were mad, obviously, they'd been there all week. This was the end of the fourth day, and Mike Rogers was getting tired of being there. I guess he wanted to put Matt Gates in his place, a position that most of us have been in at some point in the last couple years, I'm sure. And he dared to dream the dream. He was like, screw it. This is my chance. I'm gonna put that little s o b in his place. But his colleagues restrained him. So unfortunately, we did not get a fist fight on the floor of the house. But if you think that's where the drama ended, you are kidding yourselves, because later on, we had another Republican representative, Tim Burch from Tennessee, who had this to say about Mike Rogers from Alabama.

He said, quote, people shouldn't be drinking, especially when you're a redneck on the house floor. I would drop him like a bag of dirt. Nobody's gonna put their hands on me. Nobody's gonna threaten me. It's just one of those things, you've been around fights before. You've seen it, some guy gets in your face, and then it's just an unfortunate moment is all it was. It shouldn't have happened. He shouldn't have crossed that line, like Al Burch's, like, oh, I'll drop him like a bag of dirt. I got Matt Gaetz's back. Oh, he's a redneck who had been drinking on the floor, which of course, there is no evidence to suggest that this lawmaker had been drinking. A similar allegation by a Republican had been made against Democrats earlier in the week, but you just called him a redneck. You called the representative from Alabama, a redneck. How do you think that's gonna play with your constituents in Tennessee? You idiot. I mean, don't you think that that is an insult that gets leveled at them plenty of times, and here you are throwing it against one of your own, just because again, he wanted to live the dream and go punch Matt Gates in the face.

All of this drama, of course, died down. Everything settled a bit. Kevin McCarthy won his speakership. But let us never forget that video. Let's never forget that instance where Mike Rogers came that close to letting Matt Gates have it.
