Following a viral video of an alleged book burning over the weekend, a Republican candidate for Missouri's governorship has pledged that he will burn books if he is elected into office. He claims the video was of him burning cardboard boxes that represent "woke" liberal policies, but he says he'll absolutely burn books if he gets to control the state. Over the past weekend and throughout the beginning of this week, a viral video, uh, was posted on social media that shows a couple of lawmakers from Missouri using flame throwers to set fire to a bunch of cardboard boxes. Now, the reason this video went viral is because people had said this was a book burning in Missouri. Now, according to the two Missouri Republican lawmakers who had the flame throwers in the video, 'cause this wasn't just a bunch of yahoos, this was two Republican state senators. Those weren't books. They were just empty cardboard boxes. But they say the cardboard boxes represented the woke policies of the left that they're just gonna burn to the ground. One of the men in that video state Senator Bill Egel, again a Republican, the other one's a Republican state senator, Nick Schroer Egel is running for governor of Missouri. And after the video went viral, he gave an interview and this is what he had to say about it. In the video, I am taking a flame thrower to cardboard boxes representing what I am going to do to the leftist policies and rhino corruption of the Jeff City Swamp. But let's be clear, you bring those woke pornographic books to Missouri schools to try to brainwash our kids. I'll burn those two on the front lawn of the governor's mansion.

In the year 2023, a Republican candidate actively campaigning on the promise of burning books, books that are not pornographic, that's just the Republican talking point. They want to burn books starting to feel less like 2023 and more like 1933. Right, folks? Because that's where it feels like we are. It feels like we've gone almost a century to the past, watching those old videos saying, how could people let this happen? And then we look around this country today and we're like, oh, that's how. Now of course, this man, egel, Republican state Senator Egel has been called out by the, uh, house minority leader, crystal, uh, qua, A democrat qua said quote, watching lawmakers use flame throwers to intimidate folks they disagree with is a jarring reminder of how they view their job as a joke while real people suffer from their cruelty. We deserve a government that's going to work to solve real problems, not make political stunts. That's a very nice way of putting it. Little, little more cordial than I would've been.
