3:42Now PlayingA little over a year ago, Matt Gaetz said that efforts to impeach President Biden were ridiculous because it would lead to an endless cycle of impeachment between the parties. He changed his tune this past summer, and has supported the efforts to impeach Biden. Or, at least, that's what he wants the voters to think. It has been revealed that Gaetz actually trash talked the impeachment attempt in a recent call with wealthy donors, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

Matt Gaetz has been a little wishy-washy about whether or not he does or does not, you know, support the impeachment attempt into President Biden. And of course, you know, about a year or so ago, Matt Gaetz was one of the reasonable voices out there saying, no, we shouldn't go forward with impeachment. It'll just put us on an endless cycle of Dems, impeach a Republican, Republicans then impeach the Democrat, and so on and so forth. It's actually a reasonable, and to be honest, accurate assessment of what could happen. But over the summer, obviously something changed with Matt Gaetz and he suddenly was one of the people pushing for this impeachment of President Biden. And in fact, about a month ago, he actually said that this impeachment was not about actually impeaching him. It's about tarnishing his image. Yeah, those aren't the exact words he used, but it's what he meant, um, in the public.
Like he said, the public will get to judge him on this, but recently it was revealed that in a call to major Republican donors, Matt Gaetz still thinks that impeachment is a very stupid idea. According to the reports, here is what Matt Gaetz recently told the wealthy Republican mega donors, I don't believe that we are endeavoring upon a legitimate impeachment of Joe Biden. They're trying to engage in a, like forever war of impeachment. And like many of our forever wars, it will drag on forever and end in a bloody draw. I just don't get the sense that it's for the sake of impeachment. I, I think it's for the sake of having another bad thing to say about Joe Biden.
I agree with you. And do you know why I agree with you, because you already said that that's what this is about. So I, I do like the fact of course, that, you know, you, you were open and honest a couple weeks ago when you said, eh, it's not about actually impeaching him. It's about, you know, the public getting to judge him in the election. So that's kind of actually exactly what you're saying to the donors, right? You're like, ah, it's not about impeachment, this is just about, you know, people are gonna think some things.
Did the wealthy Republican donors buy it? Also? Matt, another question here for you. Uh, you have of course famously pretended that you're not taking big money from the wealthy Republican donors. So why are you on a phone call with 'em in the first place? Hmm. You ever think about that? Like that? That's kind of the buried lead of this story, right? That Matt Gaetz is in fact not the person who he pretends to be when he goes out there and he talks to the constituents in our district telling 'em like, I'm not owned by big business. Yeah, you are. And if they actually took the time to go through and look at all of your corporate donors, they would know that too. But of course they're never gonna do it. But you're gonna pretend to tell them that you are is shooing big money while you're behind the scenes making phone calls to big money donors, telling 'em, don't worry about the impeachment. You know, it's probably not gonna go anywhere. We need to stop it. It's a bad thing. And then publicly you're like, we gotta impeach this guy. So you're talking out of both sides of your mouth and you've been exposed, you've been exposed for so many things, to be honest, recently. So hopefully the exposures keep coming because every Matt Gats story that's come out in the last two weeks has been relatively horrific. And at this point, I don't think those stories are gonna stop either.
