Republican Governors Agree To Let 8 Million Children Starve This Summer

Republican governors in 15 states have turned down federal assistance to allow the states to provide meals for impoverished children in the summer months when school isn't in session. These students are given free and reduced lunches during the school year, but when school is out they are often left wondering where their next meal is going to come from. The Biden administration wanted to put an end to child hunger, but Republicans clearly said NO. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what happened.

The Republican Party of the United States of America caress so much about the welfare of children. They tell us all the time we're the party of protecting kids. And they care so much about protecting kids. That 15 Republican governors have decided to let 8 million children starve this coming summer by opting out of a federally funded program to provide impoverished families with $120 a month so that kids who received free and reduced school lunches during the school year can actually keep eating food over the summer when school's not in session. 15 Republican governors from the states of Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, and Wyoming, they all agreed, we don't want your federal money to keep our children from starving for three months when school's not in session. These are the lowest of the low in terms of human beings in the United States. As I said, this is a federally funded program. These Republican governors were not gonna have to cough up any money out of their own budgets in order to feed these hungry children.

Now, Republicans love to tell us, or at least sometimes they don't tell us with their words, but they tell us with their actions that people in this country who are poor or poor just because they've made bad life decisions, right? It's that whole prosperity gospel thing. You do bad things, you lose money, you do good things, you get lots of money, right? These are children. These children have no say over what their parents do, what jobs their parents take, where their parents move. These kids, even if their parents did make bad decisions, which is a stupid argument anyway, it doesn't matter. But even if the parents did make bad decisions, the kids did not make those decisions. But these 15 Republican governors, including people like Ron DeSantis, Greg Abbott, Christie Nome, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Brian Kemp, Kim Reynolds in Iowa, um, they all say, those kids. That's what they're saying. And I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna be shy about saying it. 15 Republican governors are saying, you hungry kids. Best of luck. Now, they're not even telling 'em best of luck. That's me being a little overly generous. That's what's happening in the country today. I don't ever want to hear a, another Republican in this country say, you care about kids. You don't. Your actions prove it. You, I mean, your actions actually suggest that you hate kids. That's what I'm seeing.

If you are willing to not let a child have $120 a month to eat food, then you hate kids, and that should just be the new slogan of the Republican Party. Vote Republican. We hate hungry kids.
