He lied under oath only because they had already launched a frivolous investigation into his sex life. Granted, that doesn't make it okay, but the Republican party in Congress, I mean, hell, they haven't functioned. They didn't function in the nineties. They didn't function in the eighties. They were a rubber stamp for Ronald Reagan and everything he wanted

They tried to block everything during the Obama administration. They tried to block everything during the Biden administration. They went along with everything during the first Trump administration. They go through Republican President, Republican Congress, rubber stamp everything, let 'em get away with murder, Democrat in office, block everything, shut the government down, try to impeach 'em for God knows what, and that's what it is. Republicans attempted to impeach President Obama, I believe, 18 or 19 times, 18 or 19 times during the Obama years. I forget the exact number 'cause it's been a while since I've had to talk about that. But they tried to impeach him well over a dozen times. They introduced articles of impeachment. Obviously, they never went anywhere. They never caused any investigations.
