4:22Now PlayingHouse Votes to Create Select Committee to Investigate Capitol Attack
The House voted to create a select committee to investigate the January 6 attack on the Capitol, and a group of Republicans skipped the vote to meet former President Donald Trump in Texas. The new select committee controlled by Democrats was created after the bipartisan commission failed to move forward.
BNC Washington D.C. correspondent Bofta Yimam joins "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss the vote and the select committee. Democrats who wanted this committee to happen say it's important to identify the root causes of the attack, security failures and Trump's role. Republicans say reports on the attack have already been provided, making a committee unnecessary. A Senate report released weeks ago revealed massive intelligence failures and security breakdowns.
