1:30Now PlayingFlorida governor Ron DeSantis is doubling down on his belief that parents have the fundamental right to raise their children, health and well-being, and it has to be respected by the state at all levels of government.
DeSantis issued Executive Order 21-175 in response to Florida school districts that were considering or implementing mask mandates per the recommendation of the Biden Administration. The order would punish school districts by withholding funding. “At the end of the day, as a parent, I would like that choice,” said DeSantis. “Many of these kids, by the way, have recovered from COVID. So, there’s really no scientific justification.” He also came for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, saying masks could lead to emotional, academic or physiological effects in school-aged children. That belief has yet to be confirmed.
