The Chamber voted 50 to 49 in favor and it was the first step in the reconciliation process which will allow Democrats to approve their plan without Republican votes. The plan won’t get approved anytime soon because the House doesn’t return from August recess until September 20, 2021.
The Delta variant is reigniting a new COVID-19 surge as well as new mask mandates. Some hospitals are struggling to stay afloat during this new wave. In Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas and Alabama, hospitalizations are more than double the national rate. More than 94,000 were infected last week with COVID-19.
