Reverend William J. Barber II on President Biden’s Infrastructure and Reconciliation Bills

President Joe Biden scored a political victory in the Senate by getting bipartisan approval for his $1 trillion infrastructure plan.

The plan will distribute federal funding to repair the nation's roads and bridges, bring high-speed internet to more impoverished communities of color, provide clean energy sources to reduce pollution in urban areas, replace lead pipes in the nation's water utility systems and improve public transportation systems.

Also, it would also create around 2 million jobs a year over the next decade while creating economic opportunities for minority-owned businesses, according to a White House fact sheet.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Congressional Progressive Caucus have said they won’t vote on the infrastructure bill until the Senate also passes the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill. The package would administer significant changes to health care, social and climate policy.
