Dec 9, 20218:19Now PlayingTrigger Warning: School Shooting
In the aftermath of the Oxford, Michigan, school shooting which left four students dead, and seven others wounded, the county prosecutor argued the parents of the 15-year-old shooter shared the legal responsibility.
A Washington Post op-ed argues this would likely backfire on Black families.
“If the Crumbley prosecution expands law enforcement’s power to charge parents for their children’s crimes, law enforcement officials who share widely-held implicit biases against Black children and parents could easily choose to use that power disproportionately against racial minorities," author Evan Bernick wrote.
Former prosecutor Debbie Hines joins Charles Blow on “Black News Tonight” to discuss this argument.
