Woman With Dozens of Unpaid Parking Tickets Arrested for DWI

Around 11:25 PM on April 7, 2024, Patrolman Matthew Golembieski with the Monmouth Beach Police Department was on patrol on Ocean Avenue and he observed a 2012 BMW speeding northbound by going 53 MPH in a 40 MPH zone. As followed the vehicle, he observed the driver swerving and failing to stay in the lane before striking a curb. He activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over in on Ocean Boulevard near Broadway in Long Branch. He notified dispatch about the traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Deidre.

As he approached Deidre, he observed indicators of impairment. Deidre was asked for her documents, but she was only able to provide her registration. She told Patrolman Golembieski that she had left work at the Colts Neck Country Club and that she was headed home after dropping off someone else. She admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening before operating a motor vehicle. Patrolman Peter Farmer arrived on scene to assist as Patrolman Golembieski returned to his patrol car to check her registration. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Deidre was eventually asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises.

Patrolman Golembieski started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Deidre did not touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and failed to count each step. The third exercise was the One Leg Stand test, and Deidre failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion, counted incorrectly, and her foot down before the test was complete. The final exercise was the lack of convergence test.

Based on her erratic driving, her admission to consuming alcohol earlier that evening, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Deidre was placed under arrest. A search of her vehicle incident to arrest revealed an open container of High Noon inside the vehicle. After she was placed under arrest, her vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold according to John’s Law. Patrolman Golembieski transported Deidre to the Monmouth Beach Police Department for further processing.

After they were finished processing Deidre, she was released a sober adult pending her court appearance after they signed the Potential Liability Warning on Deidre’s behalf. Patrolman Golembieski issued Deidre the following citations: Operating under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, speeding, and traffic on marked lanes, open container, failure to possess driver license, and failure to possess driver insurance card

Court records indicate that Deidre has received dozens of parking tickets in Asbury Park, Sea Bright, and Red Bank over the past 2 years, and many of those tickets remain unpaid as of November 26, 2024.
