1:49Now PlayingTechnology is at the heart of learning at Washington Leadership Academy in Washington D.C. Instead of reading about the world, students use virtual-reality technology to see places in person. And instead of pens, paper and textbooks, students are plugged into digital learning environments that will open them up to information and experiences from around the world.
The school’s founding members lament that American education isn’t taking advantage of technological breakthroughs, and they want to create a different kind of school. “We’re going to try to have [students] tapped into the technologies as they’re coming out in real time, rather than being 20 years behind,” says co-founder Stacy Kane.
