For thousands of homeless and foster youth in Los Angeles, education is often interrupted. RISE High wants to change that by providing students with flexible and individualized learning where they are.

The school wants to fill educational gaps while also meeting legal, health and mental needs of students they plan to serve. “The system doesn’t always work for them,” says assistant principal Erin Whalen. “The system is not always there to support them.”
