as posted by the channel► In this video, Baum Hedlund Roundup cancer clients Teri McCall and Deborah Brooks describe how their husbands were diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma after being exposed to Monsanto Roundup weed killer.
After their remarks, Arturo S. Rodriguez, president of the United Farm Workers (UFW), discusses why California needs to warn farmers and agricultural workers about the side effects associated with glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup.
The video was taken from a Jan. 27, 2017 press conference held by the law firm of Baum, Hedlund, Aristei & Goldman and environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. in support of the State of California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), which was named in a lawsuit by agricultural giant Monsanto.
Monsanto filed a lawsuit against OEHHA in 2016 after California issued a notice of intent to list glyphosate as a chemical “known to the state cause cancer” in accordance with Proposition 65.
In the second of four videos of the press conference, Teri McCall remembers her late husband, Jack, who sprayed Roundup on the family’s farm in Cambria, California for decades.
"My husband Jack was very conscious of the dangers of chemicals and his misfortune was taking Monsanto's word that Roundup was safe," said McCall, who believes that a Roundup warning label would have saved Jack’s life.
Next to speak was Deborah Brooks, who also lost her husband, Dean, to non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2016. Dean used Roundup to kill weeds at the couple’s Harmony, California home.
"My husband was a wise man. If he knew that a weed killer could have killed him and left his
wife struggling to survive after providing for the two of them, he would have lived with the weeds,” said Brooks.
Finally, Arturo S. Rodriguez closes this video by discussing the challenges faced by farm workers today, specifically not knowing what chemicals are in the products they are spraying on crops.
“We call on the State of California to continue fighting to ensure that Roundup is labeled in the way that it should be,” said Rodriguez.
The law firm of Baum, Hedund, Aristei & Goldman and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. are representing Teri McCall and Deborah Brooks in their lawsuits against Monsanto.
