Late Term Abortions Now Legal in New York If Mother’s Life or *Health* Is At Risk (REACTION)

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed into law rules allowing abortion at any time of pregnancy if the mother’s *health* is at risk. It replaces the law that said abortion was legal up until 24 weeks (6 months) if the mother’s life is at risk. Key terms here are “health” and “life.” Most will report the story as “life of mother” but since the actual verbiage says “health,” this law will most certainly be abused by women who do not have an actual life-threatening risk.

A woman may claim that her “mental health” is complicated by her pregnancy and request an abortion at 8 months gestation. Or if a woman has a pre-existing medical condition that is too expensive to care for while at the same time pregnant. That may also be a reason for abortion. Since the term “health” is apparently not clearly defined in the law, all avenues are wide open for interpretation and abuse.

The new laws also allow midwives and medical assistants to perform abortions in certain circumstances. Cuomo stated that these new set of rules in the new law were to prevent any complications due to a possible repeal of Roe V. Wade, which made abortion legal on a federal level. Without Roe, abortion would go back to being an issue that each state could write their own laws for. Unless another federal law replaced Roe that totally outlawed abortion on a federal level. Of which there apparently was none before 1973.
