17:15Now PlayingVirginia’s current Democratic Governor, Ralph Northam, is at the center of controversy surrounding his racist 1984 yearbook photo selection. The picture in question features two men, one in black face, one in a KKK costume. It is not quite clear which one of these men is Northam, but he is one of them. Most likely the black face person. Some people have said that this should not be reason for him to resign because kids do stupid things when they are young. The problem is that by 1984, Northam was 25 years old and had already graduated high school, Virginia Military Institute (VMI), and then Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) where this yearbook photo was located.
Northam had another controversy start up just a few days ago when video of Fairfax delegate Kathy Tran went viral. In the video, she was defending late term abortions. Up to 40 weeks in fact. For reasons including physical and MENTAL health of the mother. Ralph Northam is a doctor, a pediatric neurologist, and he not only supported the bill - but appeared in a filmed radio interview defending it. Many would say that since Northam is a doctor that he should know better. Especially considering the sensitive race matter attached to abortion.
But maybe Northam just has an issue with race in general.
During his 2017 campaign to become Governor of Virginia, some marketing materials left off his Lieutenant Governor pick, a black male named Justin Fairfax, in favor of the incumbent Attorney General - Mark Herring - who is white. Back in 2013 when Northam was running to become Lieutenant Governor himself, he had a debate with a black male conservative named E.W. Jackson. They were sitting in chairs that resembled high stools next to each other while they listened to the host/moderator introduce the show when Jackson reached out to shake Northam’s hand. He even gave him a slight nudge. Northam totally ignored him.
It will be interesting to see how the media handles this. CNN already made the “mistake” of labeling the liberal Democratic Governor Ralph Northam as a Republican.
