YouTube Description
as posted by the channelAtlanta based rapper She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph aka 21 Savage is in custody of ICE and is facing deportation due to being in the country illegally for at least 13 years now. Abraham-Joseph is said to be a UK national born on the Caribbean island of Dominica. He was brought into the country in 2005 by his mother on a work visa which expired one year later. In 2017, Abraham-Joseph applied for a U-Visa for nonimmigrants which would grant him legal permission to be a US resident.
21 Savage has an Atlanta gangster image. His music is full of references to drugs, guns, women, and violence. But Black Lives Matter has decided to defend him by starting a petition in order to stop the deportation process and release him from ICE custody. At the time of publishing this article, the petition has right around a quarter million signatures. Congressman Hank Johnson (Georgia District 4) has written a letter to the immigration judge on the rapper’s behalf. Rapper Jay-Z has even hired him a lawyer to fight the case.
The million dollar question that must be asked here is … why should anyone support 21 Savage? First of all, the U Visa he applied for is also known as a “snitch Visa.” People who apply for US residency that way are expected to cooperate with the government. Second, the lifestyle he promotes is not something children or anyone else should look up to nor emulate. Although is proponents will say that he is attempting to now teach financial literacy to children.
He should return to the UK and figure things out there. He is not a poor person, he’ll be just fine in the meantime. Black Lives Matter can worry about one less person and actually fight for things that will save black lives, like calling for an end to abortion that ravages the black community every single day.
