You might not be familiar with the world's largest and most powerful tech startup.
And during the past three years, it has dramatically transformed the fashion business, deposing Amazon to take the top spot among all shopping apps.
The company goes by the name of Shein.
Furthermore, this Chinese fast fashion company has grown to be valued more than $100 billion in just a few short years, surpassing the combined value of Zara and H&M. After only Tiktok and Elon Musk's SpaceX, it is the third most valuable private company in the world. But how did Shein grow to be the most influential fashion company on the planet?
In order to respond to those queries and determine whether the rest of us should be concerned, let's examine how the business is run.
Shein is notoriously shrouded in secrecy, but Chris Xu, an SEO and IT genius, is known to have founded it.
The business is renowned for its on-demand business approach, which enables it to produce thousands of different garment styles each week in small quantities.
Shein then uses its advanced algorithms to identify the styles that clients are most interested in, and one of the 6000 small suppliers it works with quickly speeds up manufacturing of those things.
Shein has a large following because of the numerous different clothing styles it provides and the extremely low prices. But the company has plenty of haters too.
Shein has frequently come under fire for imitating the designs of other designers, creating cheap apparel while abusing the environment, and, most concerning of all, for partnering with suppliers who abuse employees and place them in hazardous working conditions.
However, it's clear that none of these critiques have yet impacted the business, as it is currently bringing in $10 billion in annual sales. And how now become the most popular fashion brand among the Gen Z crowd and many millennials.
So what do you think of Shein? Let us know in the comments below.
