2:34Now PlayingRep. Linda Sánchez (D-CA) on Thursday criticized Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over his vaccine policies, accusing him of undermining the agency's core mission of protecting public health.
"The anti-vaccine rhetoric you ran on and the anti-vaccine actions you have taken over the last year clearly correlates with the dramatic increases, again, in communicable diseases," she said. "I was appalled to learn that the CDC suspended public health messaging on vaccines last February."
Secretary Kennedy pushed back, saying outbreaks of measles and other communicable diseases are a global issue and that the U.S. has responded more effectively than other countries.
"We've done better at preventing measles and ending the epidemic than any country in the world," he told her.
Rep. Sánchez said the secretary knew he was "making terrible decisions" and criticized him for a promotional video he recorded with Kid Rock.
"You suspended this pro-vaccine messaging campaign, but somehow you're spending taxpayer dollars to drink milk shirtless in a hot tub with Kid Rock. And somehow, you think that's a better public health message," she said.
