10:08Now PlayingIn one way or another, all of us desire to be great. In fact, each of us are subtly orienting our lives around our vision of greatness. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be great. However, there are serious consequences to how we choose to define greatness. Biblically speaking, greatness isn't about being at the top of the ladder in wealth, power, prestige, or in fact, any category. Biblically speaking, Christian greatness looks like service that is saturated with humility. Jesus said in Matthew 20:26 that whoever wants to be great must be a servant, and Paul in Philippians 2 urges us to imitate Christ's humility. By all means, I want all of us to be great, but let us strive for this upside-down, paradoxical greatness that is found in humble service to others for the glory of God. For Christians, being great isn't about financial success, achieving your goals, or self-actualizing, as many prosperity gospel messages might want you to think. For Christians, greatness is imitating Christ's humble service.
