15:19Now PlayingIn an attempt to move closer to a budget agreement with Senate Republicans, Governor Walz and House DFL leaders proposed to reduce their 20 cent per gallon tax increase to 16 cent per gallon.
Earlier, the Senate GOP proposed increasing E-12 education funding by $75 million dollars and an additional $25 million dollars for public safety, while maintaining current transportation funding and allowing the health care provider tax to sunset as is written in current law. The additional public safety funds would allow for the hiring of additional correction officers.
Later, the Governor and House DFL leaders issued a counter offer that would decrease the proposed gas tax increase by 4 cents, down to 16 cents per gallon from the current 20 cents per gallon. The counter offer requires the continuation of the provider tax and a 4-year balanced budget.
