25:01Now PlayingSenate Republicans presented their third budget compromise offer Monday, May 13, that included using $43 million dollars of the budget reserve, avoiding any gas tax increase and allowing the 2 percent health care provider tax to expire at the end of the year.
Of the amount taken from the budget reserve, $30 million dollars would be used for expanding broadband in rural areas and another $13 million dollars for compensating deputy registrars due to the problems with the MNLARS rollout.
The offer was cited as disappointing by Governor Tim Walz and House Speaker Melissa Hortman. Eliminating the health care provider tax was not supported by DFL lawmakers, while maintaining it was also a nonstarter for Senate Republican leaders.
Lawmakers are hoping to reach an agreement by Thursday to allow an orderly end to the legislative session.
