14:28Now PlayingWith thirteen days remaining until the end of the 2019 legislative session, budget negotiations between Governor Walz, House Speaker Melissa Hortman and Senate Majority Leader Gazelka ended with Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka saying he wants to take some time. No new headway was made since offers were traded the prior evening.
Leader Gazelka said he is still optimistic that an agreement can be reached, perhaps by next Wednesday. He said he’d like to see the House DFL reduce their proposed tax increases in many areas of state government. Governor Walz argued that his offer from the previous evening “offered significant change” while the Senate Republican offer was “not a meaningful counter-offer.”
The Governor and lawmakers are next scheduled to meet Sunday, May 12, at 6:00 p.m.
