54:59Now PlayingOn the Urban Debate today, Tanvi Shukla talks about the case that has shocked the nation to its very core and has once again made us hang our heads low in shame. A 20- year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras was gang-raped by 4 men and was strangulated. The girl was left paralyzed with her spine broken and was brought to Delhi for treatment after 14 days of this brutal incident that took place with her. Yesterday, that 20-year-old breathed her last. The girl was violated twice, first by those 4 brutes, who the police didn’t think of arresting immediately, and then by the state police who cremated her forcefully without the will of her family. The dereliction and brutality on the part of the state police are what has caused uproar now.
The treatment that has been meted out both to the family and the victim, speaks volume about what we have become as a nation and where are we heading to. The treatment that has been done by the police, in order to cover up their lies is horrific in its own different ways.
Is this the dignity to the dead we talk about? Is this the treatment we talk about when we think of our daughters and girls?
