4:19Now PlayingA week before voting two US secretaries are in India for 2+2 dialogue. It’s not as if the dialogue is kept on hold for the new regime to restrategize or reimagine India-US relations.
This is a relationship guided by strategic relevance. The US needs India to curb Chinese aggression in trade and similarly, US partnership is critical for India now with Chinese territorial hostilities at its peak. So India and the US are already in a secure strategic partnership, a change of guard at the presidential level is of little consequence.
But yes the ideological difference may play out in certain issues. If, if BIDEN-HARRIS come to power there might be discomfiture in store for Modi government with the Kashmir issue, Trump has been more pliant in this regard. While Trump is ideologically more aligned so a republican government headed by Trump seems to be a safer bet. However, Trump has had no hesitation in abandoning the courtesies of a friendship at first given the opportunity the moment opinion poll showed that Indian diaspora is likely to prefer Biden by making a disparaging remark on India’s filthy air. It was Biden who weighed in on the friendship reprimanding Trump for being discourteous to a friend. So with the Trumps unpredictability and eccentricities only on the rise, a more sagacious and steady US leadership might be a better bet for India.
