1:55Now PlayingIn December 2021, wholesale price-based inflation fell to 13.56 percent, bucking a 4-month rising trend, owing to softening in fuel, power, and industrial items, despite food prices hardening. Since April, WPI inflation has remained in double digits for the ninth month in a row. In November, inflation was 14.23%, whereas it was 1.95 percent in December 2020. The Commerce and Industry Ministry said in a statement that the high rate of inflation in December 2021 is primarily due to increases in prices of mineral oils, basic metals, crude petroleum and natural gas, chemicals and chemical products, food products, textiles and paper and paper products, and other items, as compared to the same month the previous year.
