YouTube Description
as posted by the channelDuring our deep dives, encounters are often brief and far between.
This time, on the wide lens of our Nadir sub, a pink, round cephalopod approached and spread its webbed arms, revealing its underside.
Based on its morphology and movement, the species is likely a vampire squid, Vampyroteuthis Infernalis, a deep-sea cephalopod known to inhabit low-oxygen waters and feed on organic material drifting through the water column.
Documenting species like this helps refine baseline records of where deep-sea organisms live and how they behave in their natural environment. In parts of the ocean that remain sparsely surveyed, each verified observation strengthens our understanding of biodiversity at depth.
