On today’s Outkick the Show, Clay Travis discussed the NCAA national championship game from last night that started too late on the east coast. College basketball, being the only sport to start that late, is, in Clay’s words, stupid. Clay offered the following population breakdown, 47% east time zones, 27% central, 25% mountain or pacific, revealing that the west coast clock shouldn’t determine the viewing schedule for the majority of the country.

Clay continued by pointing out how UVA’s comeback from last year’s implosion deserves an insane amount of credit for rising from being the worst losers in tournament history to winning the title in 12 months and 2 weeks. Virginia trailed in their last three games during the final 15 seconds against Purdue, Auburn, and Virginia, and came back to overcome the deficit and win each time. It’s necessary to be lucky and good to win, and Virginia, said Travis, was both.

Clay Travis also commented on the Rick Barnes coaching re-hire by Tennessee and the hiring of Mick Cronin at UCLA. It’s important, said Clay, to stop thinking of overall basketball programs and institutions as good or not, but evaluate the talent of a coach. Gonzaga is good because Mark Few has been there for years, for example. If Few happened to be at UCLA for the same span of time, said Travis, UCLA would be enjoying the same success. Talent follows coaching, not programs. And this pattern has emerged as a trend in all disciplines, including business and politics.

Clay Travis discussed NBA player Kyle Korver and how he has failed to make a single national headline over the course of his long career, but now that he hired a ghostwriter to write a piece for the Player’s Tribune on “white privilege,” he is suddenly trending. It is Clay’s opinion that white privilege is entirely made up. White liberals have taken away the power of black activism and turned black people, by and large, into perpetual victims. Although Korver is probably well-intentioned, he is actually furthering the pyramid of victimization, said Travis.

Finally, Clay Travis brought up Baltimore Oriole Chris Davis’ slump. He has now gone 0-49, which is the worst slump in MLB history. For everyone out there who is having a rough week, said Travis, it’s hard to do worse than Davis.
