What is Nazism | Basic Principles of Nazi Ideology |

Germany entered World War 1 in the hope of becoming an imperial power. But the world war ended in the defeat of Germany. Germany was forced to sign treaty of Versailles. The Treaty of Versailles contained many harsh conditions for Germany. It laid all the responsibility of war to Germany and it imposed many bans on the German army. Germany was also forced to pay war reparations to the Allied powers. all this created a severe economic condition in Germany. The conditions in Germany got more intense with the Great Economic Depression.

This context provided the Hitler and his Nazi party to rise and capture power in Germany. Hitler became the chancellor of Germany in 1933 and assumed all the powers in Germany. He rebuilt the German army and made Germany stand on its feet. But the Nazi ideals and the Nazi state are the not things which are needed to be cherished.

Nazis glorified the state. the maintained that the state is the end and the individual is the mean. The interests of the individuals cannot be against the interests of the state. similarly, the Nazi state was totalitarian. It controlled each and every aspect of human life. Even the scientist was not free to search for the truth. In addition to this, there was a Fuhrer principle in Nazi Germany. People were taught that some are born to rule and others are born to obey. Obedience to the leader was a sacred duty to be performed by the individuals. Besides this, the Nazi state also believed in racism. It believed that only German race or Aryan race was the only pure race. Only this race has the right to rule. Hence, it should rule all over the world. There was also an element of Lebensraum in Nazi Germany. Lebensraum means living space. Nazi Germany wanted to conquer all the world to keep lands avail be for the German race. In the end, the Nazi state was one-party state. No other political party was allowed to exist. It was the same as Fascism in Italy led by Mussolini.
