What did it feel like to be living in, and active in the protests movements of, the summer of 2020 in Portland, Oregon? We put these questions and more to two distinguished guests who we were lucky to have join the Bitchuation Room at our live show in Portland: Eric K Ward, and Mac Smiff.
In the summer of 2020 it felt like all eyes were on Portland. It wasn’t the epicenter of the Black Lives Matter Movement nationwide, but it was a focal point of left and right wing agitation that drew national attention. While left-wing protesters showed up in defense of Black lives, right wing agitants and the government of Portland (and the federal government) showed up to violently suppress these peaceful protestors. Tear gas was used, punches were thrown, Proud Boys were ignored (or helped) while so called “AnTiFa” activists were arrested, rounded up in unmarked cars, or even extrajudicially murdered.
