Ward, one of our guests at our Portland Live Show. Here’s a link to the article that Eric wrote a few years ago on how anti-semitism animates white nationalism. Both anti-semitism as well as anti-catholicism were integral parts of white supremacist ideology in the beginning of the 20th century, but anti-semitism has had a much longer shelf life. No one is worried about a papist president setting up a house in D.C. for the Pope anymore (yes that was a real concern), but there’s still more than enough anti-semitism being spouted by white supremacists.
According to our guest, part of why that may be is because of the Civil Rights Movement. White Supremacists lost the battle for civil rights in the 60s, but their ideology is fundamentally incapable of accepting that they lost because Black people out organized and out-gamed them in the political arena. Instead, someone else needs to be blamed, hence the fixation on Jews.
