“Birds Aren’t Real” and Other Joke Conspiracy Theories

We wanted to know, what’s your conspiracy theory? If you had to choose one that is fake in order to mess with folks, what would it be?

Have you heard of the GenZ movement, “Birds Aren’t Real?” It’s a fun little conspiracy that’s entirely self aware. It’s run by a 23 year old, and it works by getting folks to go to the rallies of actual conspiracy theorists with signs that read “Birds Aren’t Real” in an effort to delegitimize them in the eyes of the public. Eunisses Hernandez has lived in Highland Park her entire life, fighting to keep her family home on the front lines of gentrification. Professionally, Eunisses was a key member of the Drug Policy Alliance, and led the charge to shut down one of the most corrupt county jails in the country, diverting the money to community benefits. Most recently she cochaired Measure J, which successfully reallocated a billion dollars from carceral systems into programs that actually address the root causes of crime.
