This week, during a White House public relations event for the U.S. government’s NORAD Santa tracker (because who said the military industrial complex can’t have fun) a live caller said the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” to Joe Biden himself. It’s not clear if Biden understood what the man was saying, or if he just didn’t care, but Biden kept going like nothing happened.
If you aren’t aware, “Let’s Go Brandon” is a catchphrase for Trump supporters who are too embarrassed to say “F*** Joe Biden.” The trend began with a miscommunication, when a NASCAR TV commentator thought that the race crowd was chanting “Let’s Go Brandon” for one of the drivers actually named Brandon, but they were actually chanting “F*** Joe Biden.” Apparently it was sooooo funny, that we now have to see it on the back of trucks next to their truck nuts and thin blue line stickers.
UPDATE: Since the recording of this episode, the caller, Jared Schmeck, has gone on Steve Bannon’s podcast, leaving little doubt that he was very much a MAGA Trump supporter and not merely a “free speech warrior” as he has painted himself.
