What’s your definition of international leadership?
As the United States continues to supply Israel with a never-ending flow of weaponry with which to kill more and more Palestinians in Gaza, South Africa is taking a different approach. They are leading the international community in attempting to stop Israel’s assault by bringing the country to the International Court of Justice for the crimes of genocide. The ICJ’s verdict will come out in a matter of days.
Attorney after attorney, South Africa laid out a case against Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide, attempting to prove the allegation on five counts: the mass killings of Palestinians, preventing Palestinian births, destruction of the healthcare system, forced displacement and food blockade, and bodily and mental harm. It’s clear to anyone who’s been paying attention, Israel is guilty on all five of these counts. From the over 25,000 killed, to the millions fleeing for their lives, to the newborn babies and pregnant mothers left to die or give birth in the streets, to the now mass starvation in Gaza, this is all part of Israel’s plan to wipe out the people of Gaza. In other words, genocide!
Unlike Joe Biden and Congress, South African officials are taking a stand and doing what they can to hold Israel accountable and end the immediate loss of more life. Including of course the lives of hostages who are ostensibly still alive.
The whole world is watching…
