After getting beaten by two cartoon characters in rapid succession, first The Mouse, and then the Angry Orange, Ron Desantis is backing away from his signature culture war fight: book bans. This was never a popular policy outside the most freakish corners of terminally online conservatives, and it proved to be a major liability in his recent run for president. Now that he is no longer chasing the Republican presidential nomination, Ron is proving just how hollow his beliefs are.
While he might be backing off of some of his extremist policies regarding books, the Florida legislature just passed a bill that would ban the use of social media for children under 16. DeSantis hasn’t yet signed the measure, and it is unclear if he ultimately will, but speech remains under attack in The Sunshine State.
Sadly for Florida, DeSantis is once again their problem.
