Google workers decided they’d had enough and have been calling out the complicity in genocide, demanding the company to end Project Nimbus. This April in the Bay Area and New York City, employees held protests to oppose the $1.2 billion contract with the Israeli government.
We spoke with one of the organizers from the group No Tech for Apartheid about what exactly Project Nimbus would do and how the company reacted to their organizing. Spoiler: they fired nearly 50 workers for participating in the protest, in fact 20 of the workers fired were simply non-participating bystanders.
As workers wrote for the Nation, they ”participated in this protest because [they] could see all too clearly how our day-to-day work at Google was aiding and abetting Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza” and had had enough.
