Trump has been charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to $130,000 paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels. And Judge Merchan just slapped him with a $9,000 fine for running his mouth. Will that curb him?
Because Trump can’t seem to stop from commenting on things he’s legally prohibited from commenting on: witnesses, the judge and the entire trial itself. This despite having a gag order that prevents him from "making or directing others to make public statements about known or reasonably foreseeable witnesses concerning their potential participation in the investigation or in this criminal proceeding," and "public statements about any prospective juror or any juror”.
Trump, like a true poster he is, is posting his way through the trial on Truth Social despite his or his lawyers' better judgment, throwing out insults, often at 2 in the morning. Judge Juan Merchan and others previously said they were worried for the safety of potential jurors, the judge even asked the media to avoid sharing identifying details about jurors.
But again we must ask the question: will any punishment actually stop Trump or his followers?
