He Voted to Cut Medicaid by $900 Billion — Then Said There Have Been 'No Cuts'

Derrick Van Orden voted for the 'One Big Beautiful Bill.'' The same one the Congressional Budget Office says cuts Medicaid by more than $900 billion over the next decade.

About 276,000 Wisconsinites are affected. Roughly 63,000 are at risk of losing their coverage entirely. Nationally, the number is around 17 million people.

When Van Orden's own constituents showed up to protest outside his Sparta town hall, he told a reporter he wished they "knew what they were talking about."

Then he said — on camera — "There has been no cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. There's not going to be cuts to Medicare and Medicaid." For the record, his own press release celebrated the bill under the title "SNAP and Medicaid Protection."
