8:37Now PlayingThe federal government just paid a two-time convicted felon $1.7 million — with no competitive bidding — to clean the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. It's still green.
The company, Green Water Solutions, is owned by Ohio businessman J.J. Cafaro, a longtime Trump donor whose corporate address on the federal paperwork is his own mansion less than a mile from Mar-a-Lago. Cafaro pleaded guilty to conspiring to bribe a sitting congressman in 2001, and to campaign finance violations in 2010.
The government's official reason for skipping competition? "Unusual and compelling urgency" — they needed the pool fixed for the nation's 250th birthday. Then the algae bloomed anyway.
It's the whole no-bid scam, scaled down to something you can photograph. Follow the money.
