9:27Now PlayingA Montana construction boss named Tim Barnard gave Donald Trump's campaign more than $1 million. Since Trump returned to office, Barnard's companies have been handed more than $5.6 billion in border wall contracts — over $7 billion once you count the first-term deals.
One of those awards — $1.6 billion for 112.5 miles of wall in eastern New Mexico — was handed over with no competitive bidding at all. The government's official reason for skipping competition? "Urgency."
A competitor sued, alleging the process was rigged to funnel 73% of the new Texas wall money to just two firms out of eleven. And a law professor put the whole thing in plain terms: tip a waiter $15 and nobody blinks. Tip him $300, and people start asking what you bought.
This is what $1 million buys when it's pointed at the right campaign. Follow the money.
