A year later, the number of children receiving food assistance has dropped by at least 776,134 — 46% of everyone cut in the 12 states that report by age, according to a ProPublica analysis. The nonpartisan Center on Budget and Policy Priorities independently found 700,000 fewer kids.
Asked about it, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins called millions losing SNAP "good news," disputed the 700,000 figure, and claimed most of those dropped were "fraudulent." ProPublica verified the number. She's talking about toddlers in Arizona.
