The Toba eruption reduced the nearby population to few thousand, and created genetic bottleneck still detectable today.

So why is there no similar genetic bottleneck following the Younger Dryas Impact? It wasn’t because the event was less severe, but because the survivor pattern was different. With the Toba eruption, there was a concentrated group of survivors in a limited area. By contrast, the Younger Dryas event impacted the whole world - with survivors scattered around the globe.

There are stories from cultures worldwide that suggest multiple survivor populations were geographically spread. If survivors were dispersed globally, we could miss a genetic bottleneck entirely.

That's why Younger Dryas escaped attention. Population geneticists are looking for Toba-type signature, but the Younger Dryas produced different pattern.
