Our Ancestors Were Obsessed With the Moon

Modern humans largely ignore the moon. Our ancestors did the opposite. Across the ancient world, cultures separated by vast distances and thousands of years built enormous structures with a singular purpose - to observe and track the precise motions of the moon.

That level of collective obsession points to something significant. These were not casual observations. They were systematic, architectural, and universal. Whatever the moon was communicating to ancient peoples, they considered it important enough to organise their entire civilisations around recording it. The question worth asking is what they understood about it that we no longer do.
