Donald Trump always insists that he has nothing to hide, and then he always manages to hide everything from everyone. The latest example of this was his failure to appear in front of the Select Committee investigating January 6th this past Monday, in spite of a subpoena specifically requiring him to do so. Trump filed a lawsuit this past Friday to stop the subpoena, but there had been no order to stop it before he was scheduled to appear. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

We were all so consumed with Donald Trump's forthcoming announcement over the last few days, which of course happened last night, that, uh, everybody seemed to miss a pretty big story, myself included. And that is that on Monday, Donald Trump was actually supposed to be in Washington DC testifying in front of the January 6th committee. That was Monday. That was supposed to happen. It of course, didn't because Donald Trump, in spite of being subpoenaed and told Monday's the day you're due, he didn't show up. He just said, I'm not going. So now the January 6th committee is sitting there like, Okay, well what, what, what do we do now? We subpoenaed him. He didn't show up, do we? Do we hold him in contempt? Do we try to just keep working with him? Like what do we do? We don't know, but we do know that on Friday, right, the business day before Donald Trump decided not to show up to the committee's hearing, uh, he filed a lawsuit, challenging the subpoena. Okay? You challenged the subpoena. Fantastic. However, by the time Monday rolled around, even though he had filed the lawsuit, no judge had come out and said, Okay, I'm gonna put a stay on it. You don't have to comply with the subpoena yet because you're challenging. That didn't happen. So legally speaking, even though he had sued to block the subpoena, nothing had been ordered. So he was still required to show up on Monday. Therefore, the Democrats can hold him in contempt.

But what's the point? And I hate to say that I hate to be so defeatist, but here's the thing. They're not gonna be able to compel him to testify, because by the time they would get around to being able to do that, a judge would have stepped in and blocked the subpoena at least temporarily. As the lawsuit moves forward, the lawsuit will take months to resolve. Democrats in the house have a month and a half now, folks come January, I think third is when the new Congress gets sworn in. Guess what happens to that January 6th committee? It doesn't exist anymore. It's over. It's over. So the committee is out of time. They're not gonna be able to get Donald Trump to show up. They're not gonna waste any more resources trying to fight this lawsuit that he's filed. He prevails in that particular situation, but the committees still won. And that's the important thing to remember here. Yep. They've run against the clock. They're outta time. But Donald Trump, as we all recall, after they voted unanimously to subpoena him, he issued his 14 page response, attacking them, attacking them, attacking them. But then he went out in the media, as did his lawyer, Alina Haba, telling people that, Hey, I

Got nothing to hide. I'll be happy to do it. You put it on prime time, You make sure everybody in America watches it. I'll be there with bells on. Alina Hoba said, I encourage him to go, He's got nothing to hide. It'll be great. Uh, it, it is worth noting however, that the rest of Donald Trump's legal team, the good lawyers, um, told him, Please, for the love of God, don't do this. You're gonna perjure yourself. You're gonna end up in more legal problems, and we just simply cannot handle that. Now, Trump listened to the smart lawyers, not to Alina Haba so good for him on that. But his whole, I've got nothing to hide.
