Chauvin's mother, Carolyn Pawlenty, speaks before Judge Peter Cahill ahead of her son's sentencing to speak on his behalf. She says her son has put others before himself and refers to him as a loving and caring man. "Even though I have not spoken publicly, I have always supported him 100% and always will," she says. Citing the toll the case has taken on him, she says a lengthy sentence will not serve him well. "When you sentence my son, you'll also be sentencing me," she adds, noting that she may not be alive when he is released.
