Drunk Teacher Crashes Into a Ditch at Over DOUBLE the Limit

Around 1:57 AM on May 30, 2024, Sergeant Brianna Gates and Officer Kathryn Kennedy with the Pleasant Prairie Police Department was dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on the 6900 Block of 88th Avenue. They arrived on scene and noticed that a 2020 Toyota Corolla had crashed into a ditch. They made contact with the driver, who was identified as Kaitlyn Williamson. Kaitlyn was escorted out of the vehicle by Officer Kennedy and Sergeant Gates asked her to explain what happened.

She told her that she was coming from Angry Bob’s, which is a sports bar in Kenosha. As she was speaking with Kaitlyn, Sergeant Gates observed indicators of impairment. She asked Kaitlyn how much she had to drink, and Kaitlyn admitted to having 2 drinks earlier that evening. Officer Jordan Haske arrived on scene to assist shortly afterwards, and he took over the investigation. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Kaitlyn was asked to perform field sobriety exercises.

The first field sobriety exercise involved the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Officer Haske observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. He also observed vertical nystagmus. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test, and Kaitlyn failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step, took an incorrect number of steps, and failed to turn. The final field sobriety exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Kaitlyn failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down multiple times before the test was complete.

After the field sobriety exercises were completed, Kaitlyn was offered an opportunity to blow into a preliminary breath test (PBT), and she agreed to do so. The PBT results indicated a BAC level of 0.213%. Based on the motor vehicle crash, her indicators of impairment, her admission to consuming alcohol, and her inability to perform the field sobriety tests adequately, Kaitlyn was placed under arrest for operating while intoxicated (OWI).

Officer Haske placed Kaitlyn inside the patrol car and read her the Informing the Accused form. Kaitlyn agreed to submit breath samples, and he transported Kaitlyn to the Pleasant Prairie Police Department for further processing. Her breathalyzer results indicated BAC level of 0.18%, which was more than double the legal limit of 0.08%. After Officer Haske was finished with his paperwork, he eventually released Kaitlyn to a sober adult after he took responsibility for her.

She was issued the following citations:

-Operating while intoxicated (1st) (346.63(1)(A))

-Operating with Prohibited Alcohol Concentration Greater than .15 (346.63(1)(B))

-Failure to keep vehicle under control (346.57(2))
