Mom of 4 Kids Arrested for Stealing from Mount Laurel ShopRite

Around 2:13 PM on October 3, 2024, officers with the Mount Laurel Police Department were dispatched to the ShopRite at 1000 Nixon Drive on a report of a female shoplifter who was being detained in the loss prevention office. Officer Jared Miller arrived on scene around 2:20 PM and was led to the loss prevention office by an employee. Officer Miller walked into the loss prevention office and made contact with the alleged shoplifter, who was identified as Courtney. Courtney was shopping with her 4 kids at the time that she was apprehended for allegedly shoplifting.

Officer Miller reviewed the surveillance footage as with a loss prevention employee as they waited for Courtney’s boyfriend to arrive on scene and take custody of the 4 children. After her boyfriend arrived on scene around 2:31 PM and her children left with him, Courtney agreed to waive her Miranda rights and agreed to answer questions. She admitted that it was difficult to manage with only 1 income and she attempted to leave with more items than she had the money to pay for.

Courtney was placed in handcuffs and escorted to the patrol car. Officer Miller subsequently transported Courtney to the Mount Laurel Police Department for further processing. She was charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(1).

Court records indicate that on December 12, 2024, the shoplifting charge was downgraded to Disorderly Conduct (Ordinance 109-1B). As a result of being found guilty of Disorderly Conduct, Courtney had to pay a total of $133 in fines.

Court records also indicate that Courtney has previous arrests for driving under the influence on January 23, 2013 and March 17, 2009.
