25:35Now PlayingAround 2:59 AM on January 11, 2025, Officer John Baker with the Tampa Police Department observed a white 2024 Chevrolet Camaro driving through a stop sign while driving without headlights in the vicinity of E 4th Avenue and N 15th Street. He activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over. He exited his patrol car and made contact with the driver, who was identified as 22-year-old Cameron Brown.
As he was speaking with her, he observed indicators of impairment and detected the odor of alcohol. She told the officer that she had been working at an event in Ybor earlier that evening. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Cameron was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises.
Officer Baker started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, where he observed 6/6 indicators of impairment along with vertical gaze nystagmus. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Cameron failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step and turned improperly. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Cameron failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete.
Based on her erratic driving, her indicators of impairment, the odor of alcohol, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Cameron was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Her ex-boyfriend passenger fled from the traffic stop even before she was arrested. After being placed inside the police car, Cameron was transported by Officer Baker to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for further processing. At the jail, she refused to submit to a breath test. She was charged with a DUI (316.193(1)) and later released on a $500 bond pending her court appearance.
